The Ministry of Tourism supports Gabrovo as host of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network meeting (“Crafts”)
Gabrovo, recognized since 2017 as part of UNESCO’s global network of creative cities in the field of “Crafts and Folk Art,” continues on its path to establishing its position as a leading cultural and tourist center. During his official visit to the city today, Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh expressed the Ministry’s full support for the initiative for the city to host the Annual Meeting of Creative Cities under the auspices of UNESCO in the “Crafts” cluster.
The meeting, organized in partnership between the Municipality of Gabrovo, the Regional Center for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe, and REMO “Etar,” aims to present the region’s achievements to the international community and to establish Gabrovo’s role as a platform for dialogue, exchange, and innovation in the field of creative crafts.
“Gabrovo stands strong not only as a tourist destination, but also as a cultural one. The rich program of events and festivals allows tourists to discover the city in different ways and gives it a strategic advantage,” Minister Borshos emphasized. He added that modern tourism is about experiences, and Gabrovo is a great example of a city that offers a range of opportunities that can compete with leading destinations.
“You have the full support of the Ministry. Hosting an event like this puts the city on the world map. The opportunity to present our achievements to such a strong international community is of great importance,” said the minister, expressing his hope that the meeting will become one of the major highlights of next year, like the global wine conference that our country is organizing this year.
The initiative is further proof of Gabrovo’s importance in the development of cultural tourism—a key factor for regions that are not classic tourist destinations such as the Black Sea coast or ski resorts. The combination of tradition, innovation, and international partnership makes Gabrovo a model for sustainable development through culture.
