Bulgarian Rhythms on the World Stage: “Gabrovche” Honored at the Folkloren Izvor Festival

The folk ensemble “Gabrovche” achieved another remarkable success, earning two first-place awards in different dance formations at the prestigious International Folklore Festival and Competition “Folkloren Izvor.” The event took place from 3 to 5 July in the village of Tsarevets, Municipality of Svishtov, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, and gathered thousands of participants from Bulgaria and abroad who showcased the richness of traditional folk art.

The performances of “Gabrovche” were evaluated by a distinguished jury chaired by Julia Tsankova, with members Acad. Prof. Dr. Elena Kuteva, Prof. Dr. Daniela Dzheneva, Dr. Sc. Silva Hacherian, Daniel Spasov and Dr. Gencho Genchev — leading figures in Bulgarian folklore, music and choreography. In addition to the two first prizes, the talented dancers received two special awards: a statuette and participation in the Bulgarian National Television program “Ide nashenskata muzika,” as well as a statuette and a monetary prize from the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers. These recognitions highlight the ensemble’s professionalism, stage presence and dedication to preserving and presenting Bulgarian folk traditions.

This achievement is the result of talent, perseverance and deep love for Bulgarian folklore — both from the dancers and their artistic directors. With every performance, “Gabrovche” continues to affirm Gabrovo’s reputation as a city with vibrant traditions and worthy ambassadors of Bulgarian culture on national and international stages.

Warm congratulations to all participants, their leaders and families. We wish them continued inspiration, applause and well-deserved future successes.
