Gabrovo become part of the contest for inclusion in UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The application was prepared by Gabrovo Municipality with the active support of Open Air Ethnographic Museum “Etar, House of Humor and Satire, Regional Association of Municipalities “Central Stara Planina”, the Factory Association and the Gabrovo Community center.

Within the 4-year period, Gabrovo plan the following initiatives, which will involve participants and partners from Bulgaria, Gabrovo’s twin cities, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, as well as cities from the under-represented regions

The project proposes three main advantages of Gabrovo in the field of crafts and folk art – the city of crafts and industry, the capital of humor and satire, a city that preserves and popularizes folk and local folklore. The potential of the city is emphasize by various cultural initiatives – festivals, fairs, dance and singing competitions, innovative projects.
