Glass Threads in Bozhentsi — The “Glass Weave” Festival Will Illuminate the Reserve

On 22 and 23 July, the Architectural and Historical Reserve MAIR “Bozhentsi” will become the stage for one of the most delicate and captivating crafts – glassmaking. During the two-day “Glass Weave” Festival, organized in partnership between MAIR “Bozhentsi”, the Regional Association “Central Stara Planina” and the Regional Historical Museum – Gabrovo, visitors will have the opportunity to witness processes rarely shown to the public.

Between 10:00 and 16:00, master artisans and contemporary creators will demonstrate traditional and modern techniques, share insights into the nature of the material, and reveal how light, fire and the human hand intertwine to shape unique artistic forms. “Glass Weave” will offer a space for exchange between craftsmen, researchers and guests drawn to the fragile yet powerful aesthetics of glass.

The festival is part of the region’s ongoing efforts to promote traditional crafts, foster new forms of cultural interaction and encourage contemporary interpretations of material heritage. Its hosting in Bozhentsi will highlight the reserve’s role as a living centre of craftsmanship and a key cultural partner for Gabrovo and the Central Stara Planina region.

In the context of Gabrovo’s upcoming role as host of the Annual Meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Crafts & Folk Art Cluster, the festival will further demonstrate the strength of local communities in preserving and developing craft traditions. “Glass Weave” will showcase the region’s potential to serve as an active and inspiring host of international cultural forums, creating new spaces for creativity and exchange.
